The conclusion appears last in a literary essay. It should reinforce the essay’s thesis statement and leave a lasting impression on the reader.

A thesis statement is the main idea of an essay. The thesis statement makes a general statement about the essay’s topic. An example of a thesis statement for an essay about Winter Mourning is:

“In the poem Winter Mourning by Kim Muncey, the sterility and lifeless marriage of the old couple is effectively conveyed through the use of symbolism.”

The thesis statement would appear in the Introduction and Conclusion of the essay, but all body paragraphs should also connect to it.
